Scooter Purchase and Storage

Once donations are collected fund is secured, the our Association’s volunteering members use different methods in their constant search for the scooters, including the internet, networking, visits to supermarkets and some other ways. They also benefit from the commercial apps and websites such as EBay, Facebook and Gumtree.

The members may travel hundreds of kilometres for a good scooter, using their own cars and they always pay for the petrol from their own! For example, some scooters have been purchased from areas as far as Bendigo, Frankston and Warrnambool in Victoria. A small number of scooters (roughly 5% of the total quantity purchased) were purchased from other states, including Queensland, Adelaide and NSW. The members would inspect the scooters and examine their validity and conditions before they finally decide to purchase. To save time, purchasing members would try their best to purchase a multiple number of scooters at each time of travel, particularly when distance matters. Once the scooters are purchased, they are transferred for storage at a farm owned by another dedicated, active member of the Association.

Purchased scooters would be transferred to the farm or a business location for short-term storage, and a smaller number of scooters might be stored at the members’ own houses.  It takes approximately three to four weeks before the scooters are finally loaded into a container for overseas freight. During the storage time, the scooters subject to another round of inspection and maintenance.
